Waving Goodbye to the Mountains
(Words by Vladimir Visotsky. Translated from Russian by Alex Galitsky)

To the chaos of cities and flash floods of cars,
To the sirens and lights--our plane departs.
We are coming down from the summited peaks
Leaving in the mountains,
Leaving in the mountains
Our hearts.

    Chorus:
    So, abstain from unnecessary arguments!
I have proved it all to myself--
Better than mountains can be only mountains,
    Which you haven't climbed yet.
How many words and hopes, how many songs and themes
These mountains awake in us, and they call us to stay.
Yet we are coming down--some for a year, some forever,
Because we have to come down at the end of the day.

    Chorus:
    So, abstain from unnecessary arguments!
I have proved it all to myself--
Better than mountains can be only mountains,
    Which you haven't climbed yet.
